Roles with GPC

With decades of experience in recruiting for all engineering disciplines, GPC are experts when it comes to providing the best roles and candidates in Ireland.

Architect

Discussing the objectives, requirements and budget of a project with the client, as well as providing various pre-design services which may include conducting feasibility and environmental impact studies.

Your role will involve preparing, updating and revising drawings through to planning submission. This will lead to the development of construction plans.

You will be involved in the submission of planning on behalf of your clients.

Once work commences you will be involved at every stage of the construction process right up to the final sign-off.

Architects work with a diverse range of clients across industries and carry a number of skills to help them navigate everything from the environment right through to engineering best practices.

CAD/BIM Technicians

You will work directly with the client, helping them to understand their vision and plan; then use CAD software to create a technical blueprint true to the client’s vision. Strong working knowledge of CAD rendering software is important for success.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with engineers, draftsmen, and designers to review plans and design drawings.
  • Create CAD models according to client specifications.
  • Reviewing CAD models with the client and making minor adjustments.
  • Conducing final model rendering and delivering the final product.
  • Inputting design specifications into the CAD software.
Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering

Engineers improve the services and facilities we use every day. They provide our homes with energy and clean water, process our waste, and find solutions to pollution problems.

Civil engineers design and build large structures, hospitals, airports, and motorways. They design buildings that are difficult to construct but are necessary for society to function.

Do you know how important it is for a building to be structurally sound? When it comes to architecture and engineering, there’s a whole lot more to it than meets the eye. Structural engineers calculate stability and strength and determine which materials are best used for each project. They make sure that whatever they’re designing is made to last — whether it be a new build, conversion, or renovation.

Skills Required

To become a Civil Engineer, you’ll need:

    • analytical and problem-solving skills
    • confidence to supervise others
    • organisational skills
    • an interest in buildings and how they are built
    • math skills
    • an interest in physics

Construction

Construction Roles

Our candidates are well sought after by companies working in sustainable futures, conservation, and information technology, because they know how to engineer the best building products or virtual environments.

Construction managers can apply their skills across a wide range of industries.

Project Managers

  • Their responsibility is to see that the clients’ wishes are adhered to and that the project is completed on time and within the agreed budget.
  • A building project manager is often involved from the initial concept and design of a project through to its construction and completion.
  • They keep track of progress, building control regulations and quality standards and resolve any technical difficulties that arise.
  • They are likely to work on more than one project at a time.
Health & Safety

The role of a Health and Safety Officer

The Health & Safety Officer has a huge responsibility to address accidents, injuries, and work-related illnesses in the workplace.

This person’s responsibilities include preventing these incidents, as well as ensuring that the workplace maintains high standards of Health & Safety.

They must ensure that they have policies and procedures in place that adhere to the current legislation and ensure that all employees follow them.

If the Health & Safety Officer works for a company of five or more people, they must create a written Health & Safety policy and make sure that it’s updated regularly. Each member of staff must be aware and follow this policy.

One key role of a Health & Safety Officer is to conduct regular inspections and maintain incident logs. They will also inspect the workplace’s safety measures and make sure that any hazards are remedied and all risks are minimized.

Mechanical & Electrical Engineers

The role of a Mechanical Engineer

The mechanical engineering process covers a wide variety of activities that are heavily dependent on science and mathematics.

There are also a number of different technical analysis methods that need to be applied when testing new designs which will ultimately put them through many rounds of detailed revisions.

  • Designing, planning and overseeing the various stages of production, fabrication and product design.
  • A good mechanical engineer will ensure that work is being carried out efficiently and effectively by implementing systems and training .

The role of an Electrical Engineer

Electrical engineers work with electricity in a variety of areas including those related to vehicles, buildings, and machinery. Some of their main tasks include testing equipment and solving problems.

  • Design, research, and development of technology for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.
  • Design maps and technical drawings or specifications for electrical systems.
Project Management

The role of a Project Manager

Project Managers will be charged with ensuring the project’s objectives are met and that every member of the team is performing their job properly.

The range of projects varies and can include overseeing the building of commercial and residential developments or the creation of major public works projects such as roads and bridges.

Skills Required:

To become a Project Manager, you’ll need:

    • Leadership: You will be in charge of a team of workers so it’s essential that you know how to motivate staff and delegate tasks.
    • Communication: As well as discussing the project with your team, you also have to provide clients with progress reports and liaise with architects, engineers and other specialists.
    • Finance & Budget: You need to ensure the project is finished within budget with no unnecessary spending.
    • Planning: Each stage of the project must be clearly mapped out well in advance in order to prevent delays.
    • Resource Management: Making sure the requisite equipment is available for the duration of the project.
    • Construction Knowledge: There will be occasions when you need to call upon your reserve of knowledge; project managers are expected to possess more information than everyone else on site.
