Exciting opportunity for a Senior Estimator to relocate to Toronto, Ontario, Canada and join the Building Division of one of Canada’s Largest Main Contractors (Circa $4 Billion turnover annually) to work across a mixed portfolio of High-Rise, Commercial, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Transportation, and Educational projects.
Duties:
- Develop coaching and mentoring skills within the estimating team throughout the estimating process.
• Determine project scope of work and set up estimates in the company’s standard estimating program.
• Prepare preliminary construction schedules based on self-perform productivities and subcontractor input.
• Complete estimate quantification and costing for general conditions, labour, equipment, materials, and subtrade plugs.
• Identify constructability requirements and analyze design criteria to recommend cost-effective options.
• Assess project risks, cost mitigation strategies, and opportunities for savings.
• Propose strategies, advantages, and innovations to enhance bid competitiveness.
• Apply historical labour and equipment productivities to estimates.
• Review and analyze subcontractor bids for accuracy and scope inclusion.
• Participate in or lead bid closings on medium to large-scale projects.
• Assemble conceptual and budget cost estimates using historical data and benchmarking.
• Develop scopes of work for subcontractors and engage in post-award scope clarification and negotiations.
• Prepare estimate schedules, delegate tasks within the estimating team, and ensure milestone deadlines are met.
• Lead strategy meetings, bid kick-off meetings, and other formal estimating processes.
• Work autonomously to prioritize workload, select appropriate execution methods, and guide team autonomy.
• Provide accurate risk and scope assessments for completed estimates.
• Generate, cost, and review risk mitigation plans, ensuring proper bonding, insurance, and contingencies.
• Select and invite trade partners to tender, ensuring financial viability, manpower adequacy, and technical expertise.
• Participate in fee assessments and discussions to ensure proper calculation.
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in a relevant field from a college or technical school.
• Gold Seal Certification, LEED Accreditation, and LEAN experience are assets.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
• 10+ years of combined field and estimating experience; design-build experience and knowledge of various procurement methods is an asset.
• Proficiency in estimating and scheduling software such as Primavera (preferred), OnScreen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Agtek, and BIM modelling.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Ability to interpret tender documents, specifications, and drawings with an understanding of contractual requirements.
• Extensive knowledge of all construction scopes of work and the ability to develop detailed scopes for trade tenders.
• Experience in training and mentoring junior estimators throughout the estimating lifecycle.
• Ability to foster strong industry relationships.
Benefits:
- Salary $158,000 – $165,000 CAD (Circa €108,000 – €113,000)
