Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Athlone, Ireland
Salary: €45K – €65K DOE
Role:
An established MEP consultancy in Athlone is looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer. This is a permanent position offering strong career progression and a competitive package. The successful candidate will work on a range of energy-efficient and sustainable building projects across all stages of the design and delivery cycle, including education, commercial, healthcare, industrial, and residential developments.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Project Directors to establish project scope, timelines, and deliverables
- Produce innovative mechanical design solutions aligned to client specifications
- Prepare cost plans, technical reports, and budget estimates
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians, ensuring deliverables are met
- Attend and contribute to site meetings, inspections, and technical reviews
- Evaluate contractor submittals and confirm compliance with design intent
- Support BCAR inspection planning and implementation at project milestones
- Coordinate designs with other disciplines to ensure smooth project integration
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years’ mechanical design experience in a consultancy environmen
- Level 8 qualification in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (Chartership recognised)
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, water services, drainage, and current building regulations in Ireland
- Proficiency with design tools such as Hevacomp, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and MS Office
- Excellent technical documentation and reporting ability
- Chartered Engineer (or eligible to apply within 18 months/
