A Mechanical Engineer with a strong interest in welding is required to join Ireland’s leading multi-disciplinary Engineering and Construction company. This role will be based out of head office in Dublin.
This role offers a unique opportunity for a mechanical engineer looking to specialize in welding engineering. The successful candidate will be guided and developed with the goal of eventually becoming a Welding Engineer, playing a key role in the quality and success of our welding operations across various high-profile projects.
Role:
- Mechanical Engineering Duties: Contribute to the execution of engineering projects, ensuring welded and fabricated systems meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Welding Interest Development: Work closely with senior welding engineers to gain hands-on experience in welding techniques, processes, and quality control measures.
- Welding Coordination: Assist in coordinating welding activities across different projects, ensuring all welding tasks are executed in line with project schedules, safety standards, and quality requirements.
- Assist in Creating WPQRs: Support the development of Preliminary Welding Procedure Specifications (pWPSs), including drafting and reviewing welding procedures to ensure they meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Welder Qualifications: Aid in the qualification of welders by assisting in the preparation of documentation and coordination of qualification tests, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Support Welding Operations: Assist in supervising and overseeing welding activities, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Collaborative Learning: Participate in the development and review of welding procedures and specifications, gradually taking on more responsibility in this area.
- Tender Support: Assist in the evaluation of welding-related aspects of tender documents and the preparation of welding proposals as part of the project bidding process.
- Quality Assurance: Support the inspection and testing of welded joints under the guidance of experienced welding engineers, learning to identify and address defects.
- Material Selection: Collaborate with project engineers and welding specialists to select appropriate materials and welding processes based on project requirements.
- Documentation: Assist in maintaining accurate records of welding procedures, inspection reports, and certification documents, learning the importance of compliance with regulatory requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a mechanical engineering role, with demonstrated interest or involvement in welding activities.
- Strong foundational knowledge of mechanical systems and engineering principles.
- Keen interest in developing expertise in welding engineering, with a willingness to learn and grow in this specialized field
- Experience in assisting with the qualification of WPQRs and supporting welder qualifications is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and communicate with multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required, with knowledge of Microsoft Access being a plus.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) qualification or interest in pursuing one is desirable.
- European driving licence is required.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required
Salary
- Salary circa €50k – €70k DOE
- Discretionary annual bonus and annual salary review
