Electrical Substation Design Manager
Location: Dublin / Any of the offices Nationwide (Hybrid Option)
Salary: €90k–€100k DOE + benefits (22 days leave, health insurance discount, death in service)
Lead a dynamic team at a leading utility infrastructure consultancy, overseeing HV substation design for transmission and distribution projects across Ireland, the UK, and globally.
Role:
- Lead and mentor a team of substation design engineers, ensuring high-quality deliverables
- Oversee equipment design (generators, UPS, switchgear, transformers, earthing systems)
- Review and approve drawings (AutoCAD, MicroStation, EPLAN) and schematics
- Guide development of control/protection schematics, wiring schedules, and material specs
- Ensure electrical plant drawings and single-line diagrams meet project standards
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical services design across projects
- Ensure team compliance with IEC, EU standards, and building codes
- Define project scopes, allocate resources, and manage technical queries during construction
- Oversee as-built documentation and pre-commissioning processes
- Conduct site visits, support field engineers, and oversee system audits/evaluations
- Act as PSDP representative, ensuring design risk assessments and H&S plans are completed
- Manage multiple projects across regions, ensuring timely delivery within budget
- Foster collaboration, drive process improvements, and support team development
Requirements:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (NFQ Level 8)
- 4+ years’ relevant experience, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong technical/design expertise; AutoCAD knowledge a plus (training provided)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to manage teams, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Flexible, proactive, and strategic thinker with strong report-writing skills
- Full driver’s license required
